readings

I don't get as much time to read as I'd like, and a lot of the time I do get, I end up devoting to computer related stuff anyway. Still, over the years I've managed to find some non-technical things I really enjoyed reading. I've listed them below. Short items have been included in their entierty (generally without the author's permission). Longer items have been commented upon and possibly excerpted (again without the author's permission).

Short Works

The Student as Nigger by Jerry Farber

The dumbing-down of computer programming by Ellen Ullman

The Cathedral and the Bazaar by Eric S. Raymond

Long Works

Flatland by Edwin C Abbot

The Prince by Machiavelli

Peopleware by Tom DeMarco

This is really old content. More than 10 years old when I'm typing this, and older still by the time you read it.

I no longer necessarily think this is good, accurate, true, or funny. Read it knowing you're looking at early-twenty-something Ry4an.

Heck, I can't even vouch for the old hand-rolled HTML.
