The turn order progresses with alternating spring and fall seasons (Winter and Summer never make an appearance). The current year has no bearing on the game, but it is important to remember whether the current turn is a spring or a fall turn as certain year end activities happen after each fall.
The first turn, spring 1901, lasts one half hour, and each subsequent turn
lasts fifteen minutes. These turns are usually filled with whispered
negotiations and frantic last minute order writing. The players may opt to shorten these diplomacy periods by unanamous vote.
