I hear folks saying they can take or leave playing at the Source=2E=20
Understood=2E But I challenge you to put yourself in the shoes of a
potential new player who has just heard about our group=2E
1=2E The Source is a semi-public place=2E As such, it is less scary than
a private residence=2E (Remember, you don't know these people; you
don't know what kind of neighborhood the place is in; you don't what
kind of, um, vices go on in the house=2E=2E=2E)
2=2E The Source is easy to find=2E
3=2E The Source is well lit with sunshine=2E Makes us jolly=2E
4=2E The Source has a Renaissance Festival atmosphere, with all the
other gamers and shoppers around doing various different things=2E
5=2E Passersby (and importantly, GAMER passersby) do stop and take an
interest in the game, thus helping to get the word out=2E
Warning: our group will either grow or die out=2E I recommend we keep
the barriers to entry as low as possible=2E If we say to ourselves
("selves=2E=2E=2E") that we have enough people playing and so reorient the=
whole experience to the veterans, eventually attrition will take its
toll (people move, change interests, or, well, die) and the whole
business will fade away=2E
Someday when we're running several boards at a time we can look at
tailoring a game for the veterans=2E
