We ended up with only five players, but still had a great time. Rather
than play with Germany and Italy empty we decided to let everyone write
down preferences equal in quantity to their selection position number in
advance and then ran through them. Louis, who had first pick, wrote
down England and was guaranteed to get it. Jim had second pick and got
France. Mike had third pick and got Italy. I had fourth pick and got
Russia (the third choice on my list). Jason, a new comer but definitely
not a first timer, got Germany (his first pick I believe). That left
Austria and Turkey vacant, which was really an unfair advantage to
Russia, me. I spent most of the game just scooping up neutrals.
All the conflicts were fought hard and well, but eventually Germany and
England were eliminated (in that order). Italy, France, and Russia voted
a three way as it was too difficult to do a three way without running
into the 15 center solo condition on which we had all previously voted
in the positive.
The June game will be on whatever date people seem to go for. Saturdays
or Sundays are fair game. The source seems to be less crowded on a
Saturday, but Sundays aren't unbearable. I've got plans the 15th, but
any other weekend works for me.
What dates work for everyone else?
